SEMINAR WITH SHARON KIHARA
With a bold, elegant, and mysterious personality, Sharon is one of the world's leading ambassadors of the Tribal style.
SHARON KIHARA
Born in Oakland, California, Sharon is a pioneer of the Tribal Fusion style and a dancer in every sense of the word. She began studying ballet at the age of three. Later, she took up jazz, tap, and Congolese dance, and ventured into belly dance at age 13. She is also trained in Anusara Yoga, contemporary dance, and Pilates. She has been a member of Ultra Gypsy, the Salimpour Collective, The Indigo Bellydance, Bellydance Superstars, and Bellydance Evolution, becoming the only Tribal performer to appear as a principal dancer with the world's two most important international bellydance companies. Sharon has taught and performed in over 60 countries and has appeared in numerous television programs and music videos.
Recognized as an experimental artist distinguished by her avant-garde and exotic style, she has shared the stage with Missy Elliott, The Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, and the performance troupe "El Circo."
Currently, Sharon is semi-retired and focuses on jewelry design and creation; however, her passion for and expertise in dance remain undiminished, as does her love for Mexico—which is why she chose to return during one of the country's most beautiful seasons: the Day of the Dead.
Her charisma and precision will captivate you!
CURRICULUM
Back to the Core: Let’s Dance, OK? (2 hours)
Let’s sweat and train hard! I’m going to put you through an old-school workout. The core is key; we’ll warm up and then give it our all! A full-body conditioning session featuring exercises, technique, and combinations designed to help you switch off your mind and connect with your body. All levels are welcome! Please bring water and a snack.
Bird’s-Eye View: Integrating Your Space into the Narrative (2 hours)
This workshop is a practice in using the stage—or indeed, any space you occupy for performance—as an integral part of artistic expression. We will work on spatial awareness to achieve greater intentionality in our solo and group pieces, and explore perceptual qualities through the use of depth, symmetry and asymmetry, expression, and projection. We will use simple dance combinations as a means to practice these qualities. All levels are welcome.
Ankoku Butoh no Kokoro: Dance Your Darkness (4 hours)
Art in the service of revolution? The time has come! Dance has the power to transform the minds and hearts of the audience without a single word. How can we achieve a profound emotional impact with our performances? By taking responsibility for our own emotions, our traumas, and, of course, our pain. Through the Japanese performance art style of Ankoku Butoh, you will learn the history of this dance lineage and begin to access and physically understand both collective and personal feelings. This class is open to anyone—dancer or non-dancer—interested in gesture and bodily communication. No prior training or special skills are required; all you need is a desire to explore the nature of inhabiting a body and using it to communicate with others.

TEMARIO
De regreso al centro: bailemos, ¿ok? (2 horas)
¡Vamos a sudar y a entrenar duro!
Ankoku Butoh no Kokoro: baila tu oscuridad (4 horas)

Embodied: Somatic Bellydance RetreatSomatic Bellydance Retreat
2027 -
EMBODIED
A seven-day Retreat Devoted to Somatic Belly Dance
A week to step away from the noise.
To move differently.
To breathe more deeply.
To listen inward.
To explore, create, rest, play, and reconnect. This is an invitation to experience dance not simply as something you do, but as a way of coming home to yourself.
EMBODIED is a seven-day immersive journey into movement, artistry, nature, and the profound wisdom of the body, held by internationally acclaimed artists Aradia Sunseri and Sharon Kihara in the lush landscape of Hawaii
TWO DISTINCT VOICES.
ONE SHARED VISION.Aradia and Sharon arrive from distinct artistic lineages, each bringing a unique perspective, language, and depth of experience to the practice of dance.
At the heart of both of their teachings is a shared belief in the intelligence of the body, and its capacity to guide, express, transform, and reveal.
Aradia brings the language of somatic awareness, ritual, sacred movement, and inner listening.
Sharon brings the language of performance, artistry, technique, musicality, and creative expression.
Together, these perspectives create a rich and expansive experience where depth meets artistry, intuition meets mastery, and embodiment becomes a place to discover, express, and play.
ARADIA SUNSERI
Somatic Movement · Belly Dance Fusion · Sacred Dance · Ritual
Aradia’s work is a deeply embodied exploration of Somatic Belly Dance Fusion, sacred movement, ritual, and holistic wellness.
Her approach invites women to slow down enough to feel, to awaken sensation, listen inward, and reconnect with the body as a source of intuition, creativity, sensuality, and wisdom.
With decades devoted to performance art, teaching, retreats, and embodied practice, Aradia creates spaces where dance becomes more than movement.
It becomes a way of listening.
A way of feeling.
A way of returning to oneself. Her work invites you to discover what becomes possible when the body is no longer something to control, but something to trust.
SHARON KIHARA
Tribal Fusion · Performance · Choreography · Movement Mastery
Sharon brings decades of international performance, choreography, Tribal Fusion artistry, and movement mastery to her work.
A pioneering figure in Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, she has spent her career exploring the dynamic intersection of technique, musicality, theatricality, physical intelligence, and authentic expression.
Her teaching invites dancers to cultivate greater clarity, precision, artistry, and freedom, transforming technical mastery into something deeply personal and alive.
For Sharon, movement is not only about what the body can execute.
It is about how fully the dancer can inhabit the movement. Her work encourages you to refine your craft, expand your expressive range, and discover the freedom that emerges when technique becomes embodied.
WHERE THESE TWO PATHS MEET
This is the heart of EMBODIED.
The meeting of inner listening and outer expression.
Of somatic awareness and technical mastery.
Of ritual and artistry.
Of depth and play.A space where you can refine your movement while deepening your relationship with yourself, and where perhaps the most unexpected discoveries happen when you give yourself permission to play.
Because embodiment doesn't have to be solemn.
Sometimes the body finds its deepest wisdom through curiosity, laughter, experimentation, pleasure, and joy.
And sometimes the most profound initiation begins simply with a willingness to play your way into something new.

Career
Early Life
& Dance
Sharon began dance at age 3 at the ballet barre. Jazz, Modern and dances of the African diasporas would follow soon after, and by 10, she stumbled upon a treasure- The Caravan Stage at the Oregon Country Fair- and it was indeed life changing. Belly dance became an obsession, and at age 13, Sharon began performing. At age 16 she began degrees in Choreography and Kinesiology in tandem with Naturopathic medicine, and performed regularly with her college repertory contemporary dance company.
Fusion &
Somatic Practice
Known the world over as one of the original pioneering forces in the field of Fusion belly dance, Sharon Kihara is regarded as one of the most seasoned and well-traveled artists in the genre, and is known for her avante-garde artistic sensibility that defies replication. She is both a dance and yoga therapy teacher, 200 RYT certified by Yoga Alliance; and has created a practice that combines somatic, body-centered psychotherapeutics with animistic movement, as a method for the creative processing and transmutation of trauma and the emotional wear and tear of daily human existence.
Mentors &
Training
Sharon’s education in belly dance has been eclectic, beginning with the legendary Zamara, grand-niece of Ruth St Denis, in Oregon in 1993. Here she studied American Cabaret style, Egyptian and Lebanese styles; and in 1998 in San Francisco she was immersed in ATS with Jill Parker as a member of Ultra G*psy, one of the foremost influential companies in the earliest days of Tribal Fusion. In 2000 Sharon began to study intensively with Suhaila Salimpour as a certified dancer and member of the Salimpour school, and became a member of The Indigo with Rachel Brice.
Bellydance
Superstars
In late 2003, Sharon was scouted for the touring production Bellydance Superstars by music mogul and producer Miles Copeland. Sharon spent over five years on tour with BDSS as Fusion director, principal dancer and choreographer. In 2009 she was recruited by BDSS Director Jillina Carlano to dance in a principal role and be a contributing choreographer in the unique and critically acclaimed theatrical touring production, Bellydance Evolution. Sharon worked with the company for a decade before taking a dance hiatus to rehabilitate injuries and explore new artistic mediums, after nearly 17 years of relentless travel, finding herself in a different city and often country every single week- an incredible privilege.
Bellydance
Evolution
So far, Sharon has performed for thousands of audiences worldwide, and has taught tens of thousands of students in over 80 countries. She has been featured on television and in media internationally, in several music videos, as well as a library of Bellydance Superstars and Bellydance Evolution instructional and performance videos. In 2007 Sharon moved to Berlin, Germany, and created the first comprehensive Fusion cross-training program in Germany, focusing on Tribal Fusion belly dance, Raqs Sharqi, Folkloric Source dances, Classical Ballet, Japanese Ankoku Butoh, and Yoga.
Life & Career
Today
In 2013 she relocated to the Pacific Northwest where she has continued her education in movement arts, and pursued a career in fine jewelry design, creating the brand Gift Horse Gems. Sharon is grateful to be residing in the lush forests of southern Washington, where she sculpts, forges, has a voracious Pilates practice, works daily as a land steward on her acreage and orchard, and enjoys caring for her pack of rescue animals.
